Fuel cell technology may solve
many of world’s energy problems.
These high-efficiency and
environmentally friendly power generators are
being developed for transportation,
stationary, and portable applications. But to
fully realize their potential, we must
conquer the interrelated issues of
reliability, performance, durability, and
cost.
Rensselaer’s entrepreneurial
Ph.D. program addresses these interrelated
issues in a whole new way. This unique
program offers depth and breadth in a variety
of fuel cell technologies including:
• fuel cell (FC)
manufacturing,
• materials development, and
• modeling for design, manufacturing, and
operation.
Become Part of the Next
Generation of Thinkers
Innovation and job growth in
the fuel cell industry are being powered by
people taking an entrepreneurial approach
to solving problems. From small start-up
companies, to large corporations,
universities, and government agencies,
there is a need for people armed with
Ph.D.’s who are ready to lead. People who:
find solutions through entrepreneurial
approaches; have multi-disciplinary
knowledge; have their fingers on the pulse
of the emerging fuel cell market.
Earning a Ph.D. at Rensselaer
in this IGERT program will prepare you to
excel in today’s interdisciplinary,
entrepreneurial environments.
Rensselaer’s unique mix of
world-class facilities and researchers
offers Ph.D. students the chance to:
- obtain in-depth knowledge in a
variety of fuel cell related
technologies
- learn the different vocabularies,
cultures, expectations and skill sets
within each discipline that supports
the design and production of fuel cell
systems
- learn how to effectively contribute
to interdisciplinary projects
- master entrepreneurial skills
essential to operating in the new,
progressive fuel cell industry
The New Ph.D.
Our IGERT program takes a
revolutionary new approach to Ph.D. student
education. Here, you will be trained in a
well-balanced, structured but flexible
program—a different culture, so to
speak—encouraging you to converse,
interact, aid, and work with people from
other disciplines. But make no mistake, we
have not diminished the primary focus of
the traditional Ph.D. education; rather, we
have enhanced it by placing research in a
broader context. Now, you’ll get the
opportunity to conduct research in an
interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial
environment, acquiring the skills needed to
navigate the complexities of the
process.
